The Class of 2025’s Visit to Nsambya Babies Home as told by Belisha Mayanja

In July 2025, a group of students from the Class of 2025 at Vienna College Namugongo turned intention into impact with a heartfelt visit to Nsambya Babies Home. The outreach, coordinated in part by Belisha Mayanja, was more than just a school project; it was an act of thanksgiving.

“We visited Nsambya because we wanted to give back to our community, considering all the good things God has done for us,” Belisha shared. “It was a form of thanksgiving for how far He has brought us and how far He’s taking us.”

Behind the visit was a dedicated mini-team comprised of Belisha Mayanja, Shillah Karungi, Ryan Kikanu, Jason Magulu, and Jeremiah Nkoola. Together, they brainstormed, drafted a budget, and communicated plans to the rest of the class. Working closely with Madam Juliet from Nsambya Babies Home, they coordinated the visit and ensured the donations would meet the children’s most pressing needs.

Items were selected based on both urgency and affordability essentials like baby formula, diapers, and food. “Some things were expensive, like formula, so we bought less of that, but individuals still contributed more on the day, and that really helped us out,” Belisha explained. Shopping took place at Chinatown and TMT Supermarket in Bukoto, and items were kept safely at Angelica’s the night before.

The organizing team included Petra Aijuka , Falysha Mbaziira , Aviella Wenka, Theresa Nakazzi, Daniel Inyang, David Amanya, Shane Tusiime, Angelica Wacha, Shaheed Tumusiime, Gabriella Were , and Ethel Amase . On the day of the visit, they came not just bearing supplies but open hearts and time to share with the children.

Despite communication hurdles within the charity and alumni groups, the wider school community responded positively. “People were sharing the poster and spreading the word,” said Belisha, who also served as the committee coordinator and publicity lead.

“We hoped to bond with the babies and make them feel loved and I think our goal was reached to an extent.”

The experience left a lasting impact. “It was emotional,” Belisha reflected. “The kids were smiling and happy regardless of where they were. It reminded me to make the best of whatever situation I’m in.”

In a world often defined by rushing and results, the Class of 2025 paused to give something timeless: compassion. Their visit to Nsambya Babies Home was not just a charity project it was a moment of gratitude, growth, and grounding.
