From Sales Floor to Regional Office: Carlos Sserwadda’s Journey in Banking Began at Vienna
Class of 2004
Regional Manager, Metro Region – Stanbic Bank Uganda
For Carlos Sserwadda, a proud member of the Vienna College Namugongo Class of 2004, the road to becoming a regional manager at Uganda’s largest bank started with a love for sports, a knack for leadership, and friendships that would last a lifetime.
Today, Carlos serves as the regional manager for the Metro Region at Stanbic Bank. His journey through Uganda’s banking sector spans more than 14 years, beginning humbly as a direct sales consultant. Over the years, he has steadily risen through the ranks taking on roles as a mortgage specialist, relationship manager, branch manager, and later, regional manager for the Western Region before assuming his current position.
“I’ve had the privilege of helping many businesses grow and being part of strategic decisions at different levels,” Carlos says. His ascent through the banking world is a testament to his resilience, dedication, and people-first leadership style.
But long before boardrooms and bottom lines, Carlos was a student leader at Vienna College. He wore many hats: entertainment prefect, Interact Club president, and a proud member of Muyingo House. Sports were a big part of his life at school, but so was community and it’s that spirit of teamwork and friendship that has stayed with him.
Carlos credits much of his leadership approach to Mr. Musaazi Michael, one of his former teachers at Vienna. “He shaped my outlook and style of leadership,” Carlos recalls. “It’s something I carry with me even today.”
Reflecting on his five years at the school, Carlos says what stands out most are the friendships he forged. “Vienna wasn’t just a school it was a community that built us. I’m proud to be part of its legacy.”
As Vienna College Namugongo marks 25 years, Carlos joins fellow alumni in celebrating the school that helped shape who they are today. “Happy 25th anniversary to the school that gave us the foundation to thrive,” he says.
